PASSED!!! Town Meeting
Adaptive Reuse of Drabbington Lodge
The shuttered Sunrise Assisted Living Facility, also known as the Drabbington Lodge, located at 135 North Avenue was sold in 2022.
After two years of evaluating possible uses for this structure built in 1899, the new owner plans to repurpose the existing structure and renovate the interior into a 20-unit age-restricted 62+ (previously 55+) apartment residence.
Drabbington Lodge - Built 1899
No expansion or modification of the existing building footprint.
Gives new life to a structure built before the zoning code was written and when horse & buggy outnumbered automobiles.
Privately funded project. No town funds needed. Just needs use approval.
Age restriction does not burden school system.
A minimum of 5 of the 20 units shall be affordable at the 80% AMI level.
Weston receives credit for all 20 units which meets the annual Housing Production Plan target for safe-harbor.
Initial lease-up allows for local resident preference.
Existing structure = visually the exterior stays the same.
Corner lot on
State Rt. 117= unnoticeable traffic impact to neighborhood.
62+ Community = low noise generator.
Does not compete with existing addiction recovery/group homes in town.

"As a resident for 56 years and the architect that totally upgraded the building in the early 90’s when it was known as the Westonian, I totally support this change of use.
This is an important piece of Weston’s architectural history and this is the opportunity to have it come back to life and serve a growing need for our senior residents."

"Adds to affordable housing inventory.
No Impact to school system.
$0 Cost to taxpayers.
Preserves a historic structure.
Why wouldn't we want this?"
Tina K. 8/6/23
"The current housing crisis for seniors is growing and it is the responsibility of the community to provide and care for our aging population. This project is one of many initiatives needed in town to meet the increasing demand for senior housing."
